Match Report 04/07/2026
Angel Cup Burghill Valley
21 players arrive at Burghill Valley Golf Club wondering if they had packed enough wet weather gear, umbrellas and jumpers as travel to the club looked decidedly overcast. Thankfully, the sun shines on the righteous and it turned into a beautiful sunny day.
Only about 50% of the field were able to dress according to Mr B’s stipulation of ‘something tartan’. Of those 50% 007 made the worst attempt, which seemed ironic as the only jock there a Burberry scarf, borrowed from his wife, making him look more ‘cockney chav’ than ‘Highlander’. Needless to say, the charity coffers were again boosted admirably. On the subject of fashion, our only guest Brummie Dave gave Terry a run for his money wearing a lovely matching blue top, shorts AND shoes.
Mr Chairman, arriving in Angel Cup winner 2024 Jumper (which looked like the dog had slept on it all night) and a pair of flip flops definitely topped the charts with ‘most requests to go out in the first group’. I think that is 3 requests, having only attended 4 events! Mr. B and Mr. Adams picking up fines for not wearing any socks in the clubhouse.
And so to the course, with Maz actually now only needing one foot for supporting the world cup with the Bosnians and the Croats joining the Sweaties on the plane home hopefully England can overcome Mexico, before there next easier game against Brazil!
Yours truly set off in the 3rd group with 007 and Nick Moody, starting birdie, par, par, birdie thinking to himself, aye aye! My pants soon fell down for the rest of the round. The course was in good nick, especially considering the recent dry weather, with limited signs of scorched fairways. A really nice track in south Herefordshire, made even better by the warm welcome, bacon roll and a ‘four ball’ voucher for Terry’s Capt’s Day raffle.
Cuth suffered a two shot penalty on the 10th, teeing off from the white’s, which many thought was harsh in a friendly society game. However this overt display of sympathy was soon eroded when it transpired that Terry had already tee’d off from the correct yellow tees ahead of Cuth must have been in Cuth’s blind spot!
The 2nd saw Brummie Dave walking back to play his second shot again, having hit the wrong ball this being a ball that myself, 007 and Nick had already walked past, recognising it had nothing to do with us not even one of Dave’s playing partners ball and only 100yds from the tee!
Reports from the 4th of Roadblock having a senior moment. Really confused when looking to tee off as he was sure he had picked his ball up from the previous hole. Having searched for his ball to tee off, without success, then realised he was holding it in his hand!!!!!! Talking of senior moments, JRGW reportedly had an ‘air shot’ from the bushes on the 2nd.
As my group came off the NP 12th, adjacent to the 10th tee, the standard PGS commentary was heard resonating around the course. ‘350yd driver Gaz’ was heard to critique his own drive to the words ‘you fucking prick Gaz’, shortly followed by the sound of ball on wood and foliage as he sliced into the trees –– reports have it the ball was recovered in Ledbury!
All came off the course clearly having had a brilliant day, only topped by the brilliant company with their playing partners, which PGS is renowned for. Mike Jones entered the club looking like he had been running round the course! Mike’s shirt was absolutely dripping and leaving him (not dissimilar to Scas previously) looking like he was lactating.
The enjoyment did not stop after the golf…..oh no! Cashie treated myself and Maz to a pit stop at his house on the way home. Not for a beer, but to help him lift 20 large insulation panels up onto a roof. That’s the sort of good guy he is 😊
