WINTER SPECIAL 2024
BEWDLEY PINES
We have 31, 32, 28, eventually 31 arrived for the event at, it would appear, the only course open in the Midlands. JV had done his usual sterling job and was presented with a custom-made club, by the captain, in appreciation of his efforts.
With our first tee at 12.00 it was thought we may struggle to get everyone round before dark, but due to the clear conditions, it would not be so.
The 1st is a par-5 uphill with OB on the right. Up steps Robbo and launches one over the hill a feat not emulated by any of the big hitters, including Gaz, whose attempt went 100 yards and he put his back out.
I was in the 3rd group along with Bish, JW and Pricey (who had read my mind on what to wear that morning) and we all got away without incident, me parring the hole, my last contribution to the team.
There were other big hitters out there, in the form of Dan, Spud and Mino, who were fined for firing balls at the group in front, on more than one occasion, not a good idea when that group includes the fines master.
JW was trialling a driver from Vic’s garage, last seen on the Antiques Roadshow, unfortunately for us, it came without a silencer and nearly burst our eardrums the first time he hit it.
As we had an odd number, Nev decided to move up from last to last but one group, to make Cuth, Greg and Notso a 3 and wait about even longer. He also got Robin E fined for asking for gimme’s even though they were banned.
Other incidents of my own making or bought to our attention included.
-
IB 3 putts from 4 feet twice.
-
Josh 4 putts from 4 feet on 7.
-
Gaz left putt short from 5 feet on NP hole.
-
Keyo nearly driving green on NP in 2 hole.
-
IB entertaining the crowd by letting trolley run away on 6.
-
McD playing the wrong ball on 9.
-
Greg hitting his drive 6 feet on 16 and walking off with a 5.
-
Meady convincing Robin P that Mino was a better bet than Bish in the sweep!
After all that the results were
-
NP – Gaz
-
NP 2 – Keyo
-
3rd – JW – 38 pts
-
2nd – Pricey – 40
-
1st – Bish – 43
-
Great performance by those 3 allowing me along for the ride to mark Bish’s card and be part of the winning team and it looks like Bewdley Pines will become a permanent winter fixture.
Great performance also by the new captain & vice, even if after doing the presentations they overlooked the sweep, however nobody noticed. Well done both.
Next up Sandwell, which I’m not sure we’ve played before?
