Pershore Golf Society
Bewdley Pines Golf Club Saturday 26th February 2022
A maximum capacity (32) Pershore Golf Society arrived on a slightly fresh but gorgeous Saturday morning at Bewdley Pines Golf Club, where we were warmly welcomed by members and staff. The breakfast rolls were lovely and served on time, which always starts the day well. However, I did wonder if I had come to the right club as when I walked past Tristan’s car I noticed a wet suit, snorkel and flippers on his back seat?
In true Bride fashion the Captain’s speech was a little late but worth listening to, as Mr Dodds welcomed our three new members and raised a toast to Alan Hadley who very sadly passed away a short time ago. Alan a former PGS captain, an all-round excellent sportsman and lovely man will be missed. Alan - RIP.
Prior to anyone teeing off I was a little concerned, if not indeed worried about the health of one of our members. Some others may have also shared the same concerns? I am happy to report that although he was very quiet and non abusive during the day Mr Brazier is perfectly OK.
The 1st tee saw a couple of memorable events with Josh snapping the head of his driver off, and Ian forgetting to take a ball with him.
I was fortunate to play not only with our illustrious Captain, but also shared great company with Marc Young and the eventual winner on the day David Yule. David played extremely well; and you know it’s your day when you hook it left off the tee on the third, high up into the bracken, are lucky for somebody to find the ball for you (moi) and then go on to par the hole.
The ‘’Child Catcher/Fines Man (Mr Mead) was on form yet again, never embarrassed to embarrass, with new members not receiving a honeymoon period. To mention a few, Mr Yule using a buggy and then badly feigning a leg injury; Mr Sailes breaking local club rules by ducking under the ropes and (and I know some will find his actions completely out of character??) Jolley P attempting to bury his wedge into the ground after a bad shot.
Group F driving over the top of Group E, not once but twice. (Although not confirmed I’m guessing it was possibly Michael Fish ??)
Mr Hammond had to leave early and was not able to verify this next event, I have no reason to disbelieve the facts as they have been corroborated by a Bewdley Pines member, who via her counsellor relayed the facts.
Stood on the 16th Tee Monsieur’s Taylor, Jolley P, Jolley C & Hammond are met with a lady member waiting patiently in her buggy and obviously concerned about wayward tee shots. After seeing Keith, Pete & Chris play nice shots straight down the fairway, she naively believed she was safe when the Silver Fox took his turn. She got out of the buggy, as Vic played his power fade straight into the windscreen. Her counsellor is confident 6 hourly sessions should hopefully give her the confidence to return.?
To conclude, another fantastic and memorable PGS Day at a lovely and friendly course (albeit the greens were a little bumpy) Thank you for your company and to all those who made it happen.
