ANGEL CUP (TAKE 2)
THE HEREFORDSHIRE 2023

Having incorrectly reported that Woodlake Park was Steve’s last, this was another rescheduled event but once again the outgoing Captain was unavailable, so his vice took over proceedings in the newly refurbished clubhouse.

Everything was going along just fine; Eskimo Al and Simon had arrived the evening before and even the Jolleys were on time. Briefing was underway, bacon baps in full flow, when in walks our chairperson accompanied by Robin and Benny from Crossroads.

JW arrived and according to Robbo was not on the list (he was) so had to get his own scorecard. John forgot and arrived on the 1st without a card. Back he goes to the shop, closed. Walks back down just as the Pro goes back in the shop, so John goes back again. He was knackered before we teed off!

The event is called the Angel “Cup” however this year there was nothing to play for because Matt had forgotten to bring it. Not the first Angel item to go missing!

It was dictated, in no uncertain terms by Robbo, that there would cleaning and placing on the fairways but not in the rough. Fair enough if you could tell where one finished and the other started.

The course, apart from the greens was not in the best nick, and a low sun and leaves made it hard to spot the tee shots.

Both Jerry and Matt avoided any issues off the 1st by hitting it only 20 yards. Meanwhile Chris J was more concerned about losing a tee so had them tied together.

Apparently, Dave’s Tourette’s kicked in after a few dodgy shots as did his dodgy bowel which meant he farted anytime someone got with sniffing distance, which may also account for Robin falling over and coming back
covered in mud.

Other outstanding golf reported included.

· Maz having four 8’s in a row, one of them a par 3, then winning NP in 2.
· Nick 3 putting from 2 feet.
· Cuth having to hit a second ball off the tee on 5 occasions but also an eagle on 4th.
· Jerry taking 6 shots on the 6th to reach Robbo’s drive.
· Doddy having a 9 and still winning.

When it was done the results were

· NP – Robin
· NP 2 – Maz
· 3rd – Dave Adams - 74
· 2nd – Pete Jolley - 73
· 1st – Pete Dodds - 67

Stunning round by Doddy which included that 9, so I’m sure Gaz will be all over that!

Well done Robbo for taking over from Steve with only a few minor glitches!
